Our Mission

We're Back.
Building Future Kangs.

Killeen Junior Kangaroos Football is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing young athletes in the Killeen community. We teach the fundamentals of football while building character, discipline, and teamwork.

After a pandemic pause and several years on the sidelines since, the Junior Kangaroos are relaunching for the 2026 season, and we're coming back stronger than ever. Whether your child is picking up a football for the first time or ready to compete, there's a place for them on this team.

Questions & Answers

What divisions do you offer?
Four divisions: Flag Football (ages 4–6), Rookie Tackle (ages 5–8), Junior Tackle (ages 8–10), and Senior Tackle (ages 10–12).
What equipment is provided?
For tackle divisions, the league provides: helmet, shoulder pads, game jersey, and game pants. Parents supply: cleats, mouthguard, athletic cup, practice pants with integrated pads (or girdle), socks, and water bottle. Flag players only need cleats, mouthguard, and a water bottle. All league-issued equipment must be returned at the end of the season.
Where are practices and games held?
Practices and home games are held at local schools in Killeen. Away games are within a 60-mile radius of Killeen.
What is the practice schedule?
Flag Football: 2 days per week, approximately 1 hour each, for the duration of the season. Tackle divisions: preseason conditioning is 4 days per week (1.5–2 hours per session), dropping to 3 days per week (1.5 hours) once games begin. Games are on Saturdays. Full practice schedule is released after team assignments in mid-July.
What is the refund policy?
Three tiers: (1) Full refund minus a $10 administrative fee before uniforms are ordered. (2) 50% refund before the first regular-season game; family keeps the jersey. (3) No refund after 2 games have been played. Military families relocating on PCS orders receive a full refund at any time with a copy of orders.
Are coaches background-checked?
Yes. All coaches and board members complete an annual NCSI background check through USA Football. All coaches must also complete the USA Football Youth Coach Course (Level 1 minimum). At least one coach per team is CPR and First Aid certified. Coaches sign an annual Code of Conduct.
What medical forms are required at registration?
The online registration form collects basic player and parent info plus optional medical notes. Bring to gear handout: a certified copy of the birth certificate (original to view), a current physical form or pediatrician clearance dated within the past 12 months, and proof of current health insurance. The concussion acknowledgment and liability waiver are filled out at gear handout. League insurance is secondary to family health insurance.
What is your heat and weather policy?
We follow the UIL Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) framework for Texas. Above 82 WBGT: water breaks every 15 minutes. Above 87 WBGT: pads off, 1-hour practice maximum. Above 92.1 WBGT: no outdoor practice. A cold-water immersion tub is onsite for all practices in heat advisory conditions. For lightning: 30-minute clear rule within a 20-mile radius of a strike.
Do you offer sibling discounts or financial aid?
Yes to both. $25 off each additional child registered from the same household. Need-based financial assistance is available; no child will be turned away for inability to pay. Contact the board for a confidential conversation about payment plans or scholarships.
Are there parent volunteer requirements?
Each family is asked to volunteer 4 hours per season: chain gang, concessions, field setup, snack bar, or cleanup. A $100 refundable volunteer deposit per family is collected at gear handout (cash, check, or card) and returned at season end once hours are logged. This keeps registration fees low and the program running smoothly.
Will photos of my child be used online?
The online registration form has a photo/video opt-out checkbox. If you do not opt out, we may use team and game photos on our website, social media, and local news coverage. We never sell photos or share them with unrelated third parties. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
